Chanakya Neeti – #3 WOW Lessons from the Book

Chanakya Neeti: Chanakya was an Indian educator, philosopher, jurist and royal advisor. He is traditionally distinguished as Kauṭilya or Vishnugupta, who penned the ancient Indian administrative treatise, the Arthashastra.  You might ask, what Arthashastra is?

Well, it is literally the Bible for Corporate Strategy and Management in Ancient India.

Likewise, Chanakya Neeti/Niti is a book written to impart knowledge & acquaintance on every functional aspect of life. He, in the book, has touched topics related to culture and faith. Some of the most popular Chanakya Neeti quotes and lessons are crafted below.

Chanakya Neeti

Chanakya Neeti Lessons

In the initial part of the book, he talks about things like Prayer, God, Dharm, Truth, Self-knowledge etc. His orations on these are considerably obvious but at the same time, they are very compelling and powerful, if implemented in our lives.

He says in the initial part of the book as to why shall he bother for his life since Lord Hari is the sustainer of the world. He speculates if that is not so, how could mother’s breasts be filled with milk for her child automatically after he/she is born?

One must attempt with feeling with total devotion to get success in any venture.

The lessons from the book help us to uplift ourselves as an individual. Here are some of the most compelling lessons I got from the book, Chanakya Neeti/Niti.

#1. Once you start working on something, don’t be petrified of failure and don’t abandon or drop it. People who fight sincerely are the happiest.

Why do most people fail?

The crystal clear reason behind this is because they plainly do not carry on with their goals. They do not have the audacity to take bold risks. They are afraid of failure. You need to be sincere in your work. For instance, just taking the admission in a gym won’t make your body look great. You need to do proper exercise for this. You need to strive to make yourself compatible with the circumstances.

We must never ever be afraid of failure. Failure is temporary. As the quote goes, ‘failures are the pillars of success.’ The happiest people are the ones who fight with the circumstances seriously and sincerely.

#2. Even if a snake is not poisonous, it should pretend to be venomous.

This is one of the most herculean lessons I learned from Chanakya Neeti.

There is a story concerning this saying. Once there was a snake in a village. The snake was very poisonous. It is the purpose of the death of innocent village passerby. One day a saint was passing by the village roads. He saw the same snake which was a threat to the villagers, about to bite a child. He saved the child from the snake. The saint warned the snake to leave its current nature and stop harming people. Since he was a saint, he urged him by telling that if he does bite anyone, he will be cursed forever.

Months passed. When the saint was passing by that village, he saw the same snake getting beaten up by few kids. The snake was in a highly vulnerable condition. When the saint asked the snake about the current happening the snake made him remember his curse. The saint perceives the snake – ‘I told you not to bite. I didn’t stop you from pretending to be poisonous.

From this lesson, we learn that we might be weak in something but we must never let others feel that. We must publicize our strengths in front of others. Make your potential visible to the world.

#3. Never share your secrets with anybody. It will destroy you.

Yes, you listened that right.

Let’s be clear at this. If you cannot keep a secret then how do you demand the other person to keep it?

Everyone has a close friend with whom he/she shares secret with. And that close friend too has a close friend who doesn’t tell anybody about the secrets. Likewise, it goes on and on. The secret no longer remains a secret by this. It’s being publicized by all the so-called ‘close friends’. I presume you got the point what I intended to spell here.

Chanakya’s philosophy was very simple. People back then and even today are very obsessed with increasing their belongings and ownership. Chanakya wanted to formulate a society where people are not too much fascinated by the material aspects of life.

Some more quotes, I’m in love with…

A person should not be too honest. Straight trees are cut first and honest people are screwed first.

The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind. But the goodness of a person spreads in all directions

Education is the best friend. An Educated Person is Respected Everywhere. Education beats the Beauty and the Youth.
